The Secret Garden
Dickon: The animals tell me all their secrets.
Mary: They wouldn't tell you my secret, would they?
Dickon: About what, Miss Mary?
Mary: A garden. I've stolen a garden. But it may already be dead, I don't know.
The timeless tale of a special place where magic, hope and love grow.
A young British girl born and reared in India loses her parents in an earthquake. She is returned to England to live at her uncle's castle. Her uncle is very distant due to the loss of his wife ten years before. She begins exploring the estate and discovers a garden that has been locked and neglected. Aided by one of the servants' boys, she begins restoring the garden, and eventually discovers some other secrets of the manor. Director Agnieszka Holland, year 1993. Starring Kate Maberly, Maggie Smith, John Lynch, Heydon Prowse, Andrew Knott. Based on a book by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
Colin: Are you making this magic?
Mary: No, you are.
Colin: Just like in the story. It's like the whole universe is here in this garden.
Mary: Some of it is.
It's definitely one of the best family movies. It's magical. It's beautiful. I loved the book, (Frances Hodgson Burnett is very good, she wrote some of my favorite stories as a child, including this one and A Little Princess.)I love the story, and I love this movie. Every Kate Maberly's outfit, hairstyle is beautiful and cute.
I wish I had such secret garden...
